Many people reach for carbs when they are feeling down, feel tired, or simply just want to make themselves feel better. But, as with all things, a little (or a lot) of something is not always better than none at all.
Gluten-free is all the rage these days, and for good reason. There are a lot of reasons why avoiding gluten can help improve your health: it’s a great source of fiber, but it also is necessary for the development of a number of the body’s vital proteins. It’s also hard to get enough fiber from other sources. There are also many gluten-free alternatives available, so you can enjoy the foods you love without worrying so much about your health. However, there are a number of reasons why it’s not the best diet to follow.
Q: You’ve been a fan of the Atkins diet for years. You know it’s the only thing that’s ever worked for you. But you’ve been struggling to stay the course lately. What’s your secret? A: I’ve been trying to hide it from everyone, but I recently switched to a low carb diet.
It’s true that those foods were getting to be a part of my diet too frequently. I felt that I was eating those foods every day, as part of my regular diet. I wasn’t really conscious of the fact that I was eating those foods too frequently. As a result, I was getting too much carbohydrate in my diet which was making me feel sleepy and increase my weight. I was conscious of the fact that I was eating those foods too frequently that I was becoming obese. I am now making sure I eat healthy everyday and replacing the foods I was eating too frequently with healthy foods.
Prior to last year, I ate white bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. I ate them every day. They were the first food I’d grab from the fridge when I woke up. I ate them for lunch. I ate them for dinner. I’d eat them for breakfast. And what a diet—and lifestyle—it was! I loved pasta and potatoes. And bread. And rice. But now, I don’t eat any of those things. I don’t eat anything white. I haven’t eaten bread in weeks. And did I mention those potatoes? I haven’t had them since last September. And I’m not eating any carbs for good.
Andy gained weight and tried to reduce it via low-calorie diets. He gave up because he was still hungry. Then he came upon the ketogenic diet on the internet three years ago. When he tried one of them, it occurred.
Thank you for allowing us to accompany you on your path to better health. I moved to Australia from England around five years ago. I was of normal height and weight, although I was a thin fatty at the time (not much muscle). My weight fell to 185 pounds after a year of living in a new nation and consuming a lot of carbohydrates and sweets (84 kg). I tried exercise and low-calorie diets to lose weight, but they just made things worse; I was constantly hungry and only gained weight when I couldn’t take the diet any more.
In 2013, I went online in quest of a different option and came upon the ketogenic diet. I conducted a lot of study, joined internet communities, and started living this way of life. I began losing weight after giving up bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes in favor of fatty meats, butter, cream, cheese, and veggies.

I kept going, but I realized that even though I was reducing body fat, I wasn’t gaining enough muscle to look decent. As a result, I began exercising while adhering to the ketogenic diet. I developed much-needed muscle while while seeming to shed weight; I felt fantastic!
The first desire for sweets and bread was the greatest issue. But, after approximately 6 weeks of becoming accustomed to the fat, the desires for it vanished. I wish I’d learned not to be scared of berries and tomatoes when I was younger. They are allowed on the LCHF diet, although I was first concerned about the sugar level.
The weight reduction and muscle growth were wonderful, but the true advantage of this lifestyle shift was that I felt healthier than I had in a long time; I have better skin, my migraines are gone, I sleep better, I don’t get colds as frequently as I used to, I have more energy, and there is no longer any brain fog. I’m in fantastic shape!
