Toyota Canada introduces industry first certified used hybrid program

Adding confidence to the pre-owned hybrid market

With more than 69,000 Toyota hybrids sold since the first Prius hit Canadian roads way back in 2000, it only makes sense that the automaker that’s done the most to build market confidence in electrically charged vehicles goes a step further by creating a program that builds confidence in its own pre-owned Prius, Camry Hybrid, and Highlander Hybrid models that have come before.

While Toyota builds and sells more hybrid vehicles than any other automaker, its dealers also sell a lot of pre-owned Toyota branded hybrid vehicles. Therefore the Japanese brand has expanded its trusted Certified Used Vehicle program to include a unique new service specially tuned to take care of buyers of used hybrid vehicles.

“The Toyota Certified Used Hybrid Vehicle program is the first of its kind in Canada, and is a testament to Toyota’s industry-leading experience in building, selling and servicing Canada’s best selection of fuel-efficient, low-emissions, advanced technology vehicles,” said Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director, Toyota Canada Inc. “Hybrids are as reliable, and as easy to own and drive, as conventional vehicles – so it’s natural to build on our program for certified pre-owned vehicles with this new initiative tailored to those built around Toyota’s proven hybrid technology. Add in the ability to view Toyota Dealer hybrid inventories online plus special financing rates, and it’s never been easier to shop for the right hybrid vehicle.”

Just like with Toyota’s Certified Used Vehicle program, the new Certified Used Hybrid Vehicle program backs up each vehicle with a thorough inspection covering 134 key points, and if needed “extensive mechanical and appearance reconditioning,” says Toyota. What’s more, each certified hybrid includes a 7-day/1,500 km exchange privilege, a free oil/filter change, membership in Club Toyota, and a minimum of 12 months/20,000 km powertrain and roadside assistance coverage. Toyota’s comprehensive warranty is honoured at more than 1,400 Toyota dealers across Canada and the U.S.

“Toyota has sold more hybrids than any other manufacturer and the Toyota Certified Used Hybrid Vehicle program makes it easier than ever for Canadians to join the growing number of drivers who enjoy the many benefits of hybrid vehicle ownership,” added Wearing. “This new program is yet another example of why we have declared 2012 The Year of the Hybrid in Canada.”
