Even though the province is forecasting budget surpluses will return in the future, there is no guarantee that any of the extra cash will be coming to municipalities.
In their budget last week, the government stated their books would show an over 1 billion dollar surplus in it's 2013-14 fiscal year, and over 5 billion dollars the following year.
But Municipal Affairs minister Doug Griffiths would not commit to an increase in MSI funding either year, saying he expects a good discussion about where that excess money should go.
"I will be advocating on the needs for municipalities to have secure, stable funding. But we all have to realize that we have such competing interests, whether it is advanced education, education, challenges in health care, housing development, social services."
The province has announced 896 million dollars in MSI funding will be shared across the province this year.
The City of Grande Prairie will receive almost 10.6 million, while the County of Grande Prairie has been earmarked for almost 6.3 million.
