A new Health and Wellness Knowledge Suite will be opened in Grande Prairie Composite High School at the end of September.
The new facility will be home to 10 employees, included three academic counsellor, a member of the RCMP and a phsychologist - the staff will be on hand for the start of the school year.
It's not just big mental health issues like depression and suicide that the Suite will be dealing with say Dave Johnson, Vice Principal at the Comp,
He adds that it's really all about making anything students need available to them.
"We have kids that are absolutely paralyzed with stress and are having difficulties even coming to school. It doesn't have to get as severe as moving towards suicide, but it runs the gammet. And kids need a place where they can come and have counselling, where they can get support, and they need it conveniently."
The price tag for the centre will be between 400 and 500 thousand dollars.
Johnson adds that they haven't received any money from the provincial or federal governments, but they DO have about half of the money they'll need just through community and individual donations.
