City Welcomes Northern Municipal Leaders

Wednesday, August 8, 2012 - 4:27 PM
By Jeff Henson
Grande Prairie

The city played host a few weeks ago to elected leaders from urban, rural, and first nations communities across Northwestern Alberta.

Mayor Bill Given says the meetings, which are held every three months and rotated across the region, give the leaders the opportunity to discuss issues of common concern.

He adds this latest session saw a lot of discussion surrounding ambulance services.

"The impact of the closure of the Edmonton City Centre Airport, as well as some of the training opportunities that Alberta Health Services EMS would like to bring forward.  So it was really good to share that information broadly to all of those folks that share the same concerns as the city of Grande Prairie does."

The conference also gave the Regional EMS Foundation the opportunity to solicit support from other northern municipalities for their Human Patient Simulation Unit.
