City Seeks New Materials, Design for Bus Shelters

Monday, August 6, 2012 - 10:03 AM
By Jeff Henson
Grande Prairie

Tired of continued acts of vandalism against bus shelters over the past few years, the city is looking at other options for the makeup of shelters.

Transit co-ordinator Jason Henry says the plexi-glass on six shelters were shattered last month, following similar acts of vandalism on nine shelters two years ago, and another seven a year and a half before that.

Henry says they are looking at several options.

"There's glass, there's several different types of plastic, there's wood, concrete blocks. but the other thing is we have to keep it--for security reasons--you have to be able to see inside of it. So, a concrete wall wouldn't  be appropriate."

Henry adds they will also consult with transit departments in other communities to see what is working for them.
