Sania Mirza was successful in achieving yet another milestone in her carrier by conquering the 25th WTA doubles title. The Indian tennis champion continued her impressive start along with Martina Hingis by winning the Miami Open trophy, on Sunday.
The unbeatable Indo-Swiss couple overpowered a slow start to reserve the title with a 7-5, 6-1 scorline against a challenging Russian pair consisting of Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova.
Hingis and Sania were lagging behind by 2-5 in the first set, but the duo regrouped and gave a challenging fight against their Russian opponent. They were successfully won eight games at a stretch.
Earlier, the duo was successful in beating this Russian pair to bag the Indian Wells title, which was the first ever title they had won together.
For Sania and Hingis this has proved to be a dream start, as they have not lost a set from the time their partnership had begun.
Sania commented by saying that, they kept themselves motivated by telling each other to relish the struggle they were facing. She also said that, in comparison to last week where things came easily, this time it was different and bad. Against the Russian’s, they were panicking.
Martina on the other hand gave credit to the tips provided by Sania’s father, Imran Mirza while the match was in progress.
Hingis also told Sania that, it was the coaching provided by her father, that turned the game to their favor.
The Swiss champion further commented by saying that, she had a strong belief that Sania and she made a great team. And, even though the Russian pair managed to get the duo down to 5-2, they stuck to the game and built on every point.
