Similarly, it was the last year when a plug-in hybrid version of BMW was announced for the first time. But now finally, BMW’s plug-in hybrid version that is recently revamped as 7 Series will go on sale nowhere but in the United States.
Since the time when it was first shown, a new component has been added to the model, which become the 2017 BMW 740e xDrive i Performance. BMW brought the “i Performance” as part of its effort to tie plug-in hybrid versions of existing models to its green poster children, the i3, and i8.
Most interesting is the 740e’s power train that contains as many elements as its name. An eight-speed automatic transmission lets its four wheels to drive just because of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which works with an electric motor integrated with it. To speak more about it, 322 horsepower is the total output of the system along with 369 pound-feet of torque. And according to BMW, the 740e can do 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, and reach a top speed of 155 mph in hybrid mode electronically limited.
According to BMW, the electric power has the courtesy of a 9.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, which is hidden under the rear seat to provide protection in the event of a crash. The 740e has the capacity to drive up to 14 miles at speeds of up to 75 mph on electric power alone. An EPA efficiency rating of combine 64 MPGe can also be received by it. But it isn’t mentioned that the 740e is the greenest option in the 7 Series lineup; the other available powertrains are a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six specifically in the 740i and 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in the 750i.
Similarly, the 740e is reportedly said to come with a dizzying array of tech features that will have gesture control and the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system. The other feature involves; an auxiliary climate control that is power-consuming from the battery pack to preheat or cool the cabin before the getting in of driver. While by the use of BMW Connected smartphone app it can easily be controlled.
It is expected that the 2017 BMW 740e xDrive i Performance will go on sale in the U.S. this month. It starts pricing at $90,095.
