A year ago, Slave Lake and surrounding communities were under siege:
Out of control wildfires swept through the region, forcing the evacuation of the town and resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.
Mayor of Slave Lake, Karina Pillay-Kinney recalls the sights, smells and sounds of May 15th of last year.
"I've seen major weather before and clouds of black smoke before, but this was a different feeling altogether. When you saw fire falling from the sky.. it was quite shocking, very shocking."
Free FM's Jeff Henson spoke with Pillay-Kinney and several others and presents "Slave Lake: After The Smoke Settled" -- a half hour documentary tonight at 7 o'clock.
