NewsGrande Prairie Region Bucks Provincial Trend For Seniors' Housing Vacancies
The Grande Spirit Foundation says the vacancy rate for seniors housing within their program is at zero, with a waiting list currently sitting at 462 people. That is stark contrast to a report earlier this week by Canada Mortgage and Housing, which pegged the seniors' housing vacancy rate in the province at 11.3 percent. Grande Spirit Foundation General Manager Debbie Normington says their immediate goal is to have a new seniors' facility built somewhere within the region. "We are hopeful that in the next three years or so that we will have an opportunity to build, and that we will be able to provide capacity to deal with that wait list. We will look for funding from the province for sure, and hopefully some opportunity to access some land."
Another signal of how much Grande Prairie is bucking the provincial trend - when Edmonton and Calgary numbers are taken out of the provincial equation, the provincial vacancy rate jumps to 15.6 percent. Most Viewed Stories
