Federal Public Works and Government Services minister Rona Ambrose has confirmed what several of her colleagues have been saying for some time - there is no new federal money available for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur museum.

Ambrose relayed the news during a recent conference call with members of County of Grande Prairie council.

The current Build Canada Fund - which expires in 2014 - is committed to other areas such as roads, bridges, and water treatment plants.

Ambrose did tell council that a new program might be launched in 2014 and that they should prepare to apply for funding under it.

But deputy reeve and Pipestone Creek Dinosaur Initiative Society chair Ross Sutherland says they do not want to wait that long. 

"We want to start immediately if we can you know, if we have something in writing from one of our governments we could probably proceed now but we don't have anything in writing yet because it [hasn't] even been passed." 

Sutherland says the society will meet next week to look at other ways to raise the final one-third of funding needed for the project.
