Unemplotment Rate Lower In Alberta, Grande Prairie

Unemployment in this province dipped almost a half-percent last month, to 4.5-percent -- tied with Saskatchewan for the lowest mark in the country.

Year-over-year, the jobless rate in Alberta has dropped almost a full percentage point:

Over 84-thousand jobs -- or more than 41-percent of the national employment growth -- happened here.

Locally, the jobless rate in the Grande Prairie dipped as well, to 4.8-percent for May, down 3-tenths of a point.

The Alberta government says the majority of the jobs were in the Food Services and Accommodation industries.

The national unemployment rate for May was unchanged at 7.3-percent.
