Tragic weekend for a Grande Prairie family: Jasper RCMP say a 50-year old man died in a mishap on Pyramid Lake.

Mounties report the man had rented a paddle boat with other family members yesterday around the noonhour and while out on the lake decided to take off his lifejacket and go for a swim.

The man wound up in distress faily quickly, suffering cramps.

A nearby canoer tried to pass him a paddle to grab onto, but the man went under and didn't surface again.

Divers with the Volunteer Fire Brigade retrieved the man's body.

No name has been released.
