News"Pretty Good Year" - Reeve Everett McDonald
2012 will see the fruits of 2011's labour. County of Grande Prairie Reeve Everett McDonald feels the results of Council's work over the past 12 months will be seen in the new year. The County takes over its own fire services as of January 1st. The Sportsplex is expected to open by the end of 2012. McDonald feels they even fostered stronger ties within the region. "It was a pretty good year. We were very successful with some of our relationships, especially with other municipalities, because we all benefit as a region when we all get together and get along." McDonald adds there were challenges in 2011, like sending volunteer fire crews to help deal with the disaster of the Slave Lake wildfires. "Our crews weren't up and running yet, but they were ready to go to work, so we did send a platoon of volunteers out to Slave Lake to help. Obviously, a very tragic fire for that community." McDonald doesn't feel there were real lowlights for the County this past year, but instead feels there may have been missed opportunities. He says the County needs to keep on its progressive path and stay open to suggestion and criticism if the municipality is to stay successful. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
