NewsWarkentin Back Home After Lengthy Omnibus Bill Voting
After a marathon session of voting down opposition amendments to his government's omnibus budget bill, Peace River M-P Chris Warkentin is back in the riding for a quick weekend visit. Warkentin says he and other M-P's did not want to miss any of the votes because of a bathroom break, so they had to be careful about what they used to keep themselves awake. "There were a lot of chocolate covered coffee beans and a whole host of other things that were being passed around to try to keep us awake. There were a few moments where I dozed off for a few seconds. But then of course every five minutes the votes came around so I had to be up and ready to vote." Warkentin says there were over 800 amendments in total that were bundled down into around 160 votes.
He says Bill C-38 includes changes that will help facilitate labour in the Peace region, increase transfer payments to the provinces, and less bureaucracy within government. Most Viewed Stories
