A ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the city's third fire hall.

Located in the west end of the city, the Westgate Fire Hall will meet the needs of the city for many years, according to Fire Chief Dan Lemieux.

"Within a few years, the city will grow around us.  So what it does is it allows us to respond back to the center of the city fairly quickly, yet we can be prepared for annexation of areas to the north and the west of the city, and this hall will be able to meet those needs."

The Westgate fire hall will also allow the fire department to provide quicker response to west end industrial areas and residential neighborhoods such as Pinnacle, West Pointe and O'Brien Lake.

At a cost of 6.3 million dollars, construction of the new fire hall also came in well below budget.
