The town of Peace River is one of six Alberta communities being considered by WestJet, as the airline company looks to expand it's regional service.

Representatives from the community recently met with WestJet officials to discuss potential opportunities.

Mayor Lorne Mann says since the last municipal election in 2010, it has been a mandate of his to bring back flight service from Peace River to Edmonton and Calgary.

"WestJet was always a prime target.  But now that the oilfield is rocking here, and Westjet has a new business plan of a commuter line with these Q400's."

Other Alberta communities being considered include Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, High Level and Cold Lake.

WestJet is expected to make a decision in early 2013.

Between now and the, Mann is encouraging Peace River residents to contact WestJet and let them know how much the service is needed in their area.
