You don't need to be Scottish to enjoy the festivities of the Highland Games.

Those words from Grande Prairie Highland Games Association vice president Marg Popek, as she described the 26th annual event, which takes place this Saturday at Macklin Field.

Besides the traditional events such as the caber toss and hammer throw, Popek says an equally important part of the day is the Scottish dancing competition.

"Those are the two main events, because the dancers - that is part of their province wide competitions as well.  So they tour around to all of the competitions and amass points as well."

There will also be entertainment and several food and souvenir booths set up throughout the day, which wraps up with an evening Ceilidh at the Crown and Anchor.

Everything begins - rain or shine - at 9:30 Saturday morning.
