It's a big mandate: Finding creative solutions to improve resource development while maintaining best practices AND communicating those successes to the public -- is what the Evergreen Centre for Resource Excellence and Innovation does.

Co-developer Doug Kulba says the work they do has to meet requirements of government and industry, so they work to a higher standard to surpass those needs.

"You know this is kind of a different modle where we focus on going beyond compliance as a opposed to just meeting minimum standards. And we've learned that there's a great opportunity there to improve the ecominics, environment and social performance -- it's a very interesting process."

The Evergreen Centre is up for an Emerald Award for its work in balancing resource development with environmental stewardship.
