It has been 25 to 30 years since the fee schedule under the province's Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Regulation has been updated.

And our city is leading a charge to have the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association press the government to revisit the issue.

Currently, companies are paid 20 dollars under the MVACR to tow an abandoned vehicle, and 5 dollars a day to store it.

According to city councillor and Environment Committee chair Justin Munroe, that is far below what those companies normally charge.

"A lot of the tow companies and tow yards, they do not want to tow these abandoned vehicles because right now I think they get about $150 to tow and store it, and yet it is costing them about $600-$700 to dispose of it.

City council approved a resolution this week that will be forwarded to the AUMA for consideration.
