G-PREP and some area partners have the green-light to more closely examine how feasible using unmanned vehicles would be in managing a large-scale emergency situation in the region.

G-PREP -- or the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership -- will receive funding for the study.

Co-ordinator Jennifer Wood says there are some situations where an unmanned vehicle would be useful.

"That could be for example during a hazardous materials incident or spill. It could be going into a really small space, like a collapsed building or something like that."

Wood says the G-PREP partners, along with the Centre for Research and Innovation, GPRC, the Peace Area Economic Development Alliance, and the Canadian Centre for Unmanned Vehicles will work together on the project.
