AHS Emergency Protocol Update

Friday, January 14, 2011 - 12:39 PM

Alberta Health Services Interim Head Craig Eagle is happy with the progress made so far with the new Emergency Protocols.

He says there is room to improve.

Eagle says they've seen a good start in Edmonton and Calgary hospitals.

The new Emergency Protocols came into effect on December 20th.

Eagle says in September 2010 there were 80 patients on average waiting to see medical attention in Emergency Rooms.

In October it was 84, 71 in November, 48 in Decemeber and there were 44 patients this morning.

Eagle says in some ways the new proctocols have worked better than expected.

He says the protocols have been used by frontline staff as a guide and conversation starter to figure out what work needs to be done.
