A 54 year old rural Grande Prairie man is being treated for severe hypothermia and frost bite, after being found in a wooded area outside of Tumbler Ridge.

Yesterday morning, Tumbler Ridge RCMP were contacted by staff at Peace River Coal mine, who said they had found an abandoned vehicle on the Core Lodge Road.

With help from the police dog unit and Peace River Coal Mine Rescue personnel, the man was found about 200 metres from the truck, stuck in about three feet of snow.

Sergeant Kurt Render with the Tumbler Ridge RCMP says in a small community like theirs, it is crucial that they are able to work with other agencies and groups.

"Everybody is short of numbers, and stretched and trying to do as much as they can with what they have.  And certainly the partnerships, when we develop those things, allow for these types of incidents to be investigated and resolved."

Family members had reported the man missing on Monday, concerned over his well being because of a medical condition that required treatment.

He was transported by STARS to the QE2 Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
