Specialized training for fire fighters
Wednesday, January 6, 2010 - 1:01 AM
Fire fighters in Grande Prairie will start getting specialized training this year. Fire Chief, Dan Lemieux says staff will be trained in one of three specific areas - water and ice rescues, hazmat and dangerous goods and technical rescues. He says serious incidents like ice rescues are rare, so it only makes sense that just a few firefighters get expert training to deal with those kinds of incidents. Lemiux says all firefighters will continue to receive expert training in fire, medical and vehicle accident response. He suspects the whole process to take three to four years.
