GP/Smoky MLA Mel Knight On Departures Of Two Tories For Wildrose Pastures

Monday, January 4, 2010 - 1:01 AM

Cracks in the foundation of the Alberta Tory Party:   For the first time in its 38-year history, two Progressive Conservatives have willingly crossed the floor to another party  --  the upstart Wildrose Alliance.  The two are former cabinet minister Heather Forsyth from Calgary and backbencher Brian Anderson from Airdrie-Chestermere. The moves give the Alliance a 3 member caucus and official party status. G-P/Smoky MLA Mel Knight allows at first he was disappointed at the news of the defections, but adds it's the "democratic right"  of those members to make those choices. Knight adds the Stelmach Tories will "move on without" Forsyth and Anderson, and doesn't see their departures as an indication of deeper trouble within the caucus.
