Come September 1 2010, residents in the Fort McMurray area will have to find alternatives to plastic shopping bags.

A bylaw to ban single-use plastic and paper shopping bags in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has been approved.

Gladys Blackmore, Chair of Grande Prairie's Environment Committee, is praising the move.

She says a lot of people in Grande Prairie are already using their own bags and she'd like to see the city follow Wood Buffalo's lead in the next couple of years.
