The province is setting aside one million dollars from it's Civil Forfeiture Fund, for programs that work towards reducing gang activity.

Eight groups will receive funding, including 150 thousand for the Engaging Positive Youth Connections program in Peace River.

Tracy Zweifel with the Sagitawa Friendship Centre says the program is all about engaging positive connections for at-risk youth.

"Thta may be employment, that may be continuing education, that might be... whatever.  Essentially, we are going to focus on a small group of individuals, those that might be considered high risk, or those mandated by the courts."

Another part of the program has first nations youth connect to culture through working with native elders.

Zweifel says they will be hiring someone to work with the youth, and lining up other partners, with hopes of officially launching the program in January.
