NewsSign Up A Team For September 18th Rotary Food Bank Drive
Last year, volunteers in the annual Rotary Food Bank Drive brought in 140,000 food items to replenish the Salvation Army Food Bank. Organizers hope they see those kind of numbers and the enthusiastic participation from the community again this year. Ken O'Shea chairs the food drive: He believes people who need the food bank cut their grocery spending to pay other bills. "There'll always be peopel in need because we get young couples moving into the city [and] by the time they get an apartment and a deposit there's not much left for food, and they need to feed theri kids. and that's the idea of the food bank - it's just there for people just to give them a little hand up for a bit." The September 18th drive gets started at 5 o'clock with teams meeting at the D-Coy Armories -- that's where maps and other supplies are doled out. Teams fan out across the city collecting donations. You can call 780-532-3366 to register a team, or swing by the United Way Kick Off event on Tuesday to pick up sign-up information. stock image Most Viewed Stories
