Work on the Highway 2 bridge over Peace River gets rolling this weekend.

Alberta Transportation has been prepping the site for an extensive repair and resurfacing project that's expected to last well into the fall.

Lane reductions will be in place in the evening and overnight hours -- between 8pm and 7am -- to reduce traffic disruption but drivers should expect some delays, as well as slower speeds through the construction area.

For those looking for alternate crossing routes -- there's Highway 986 near the DMI mill 15-kilometres north of Peace River, as well as the Dunvegan crossing 100 kilometres to the west.
