In an effort to help out their fellow students, six contestants will be going head to head as they try to set a new Guiness World Record... for the longest amount of time in a row to play a board game.

They're asking for the public to stop by Grande Prairie Regional College with a couple of canned food items for the Student Food Bank.

They're aiming for 70 hours all together - the time they need to beat to set a new record is 62 hours.

Thomas Petersen is organizing the event - he says they've had a special request from the staff at Student Services who take care of the Student Food Bank.

We did receive some requests from Student Services that students have a particular hankering for peanut butter. So if anyone has an extra [jar] of peanut butter rolling around [to dontate]. They go through that very quickly."

You drop off your donations anytime between 6 am and midnight, August 26th to 29th in the Black Box Theatre at GPRC.

For more information, or to watch the game play streamed live, head to gprc.ab.ca/gprcchess.
