The Grande Prarie Performing Arts Guild is looking to the city to help them, help local theatre buffs.

The guild, which operates out of the Ovations Showcase Centre at the Community Village, is asking for assistance with rent and utilities costs over the next 4 years, with the amount decreasing each year.

Director Lane Smith says the non-profit group has worked with many local actors, and others behind-the-scenes, to help make their dreams come true.

"Whether they're working on Broadway, whether thy're working in Los Angeles, on cruise ships - they're everywhere. Some of them are instructors now. And thankfully we've had a part in that all the way through, and we want to continue to have that."

Smith says the group has also contributed over $300 thousand dollars to other non-profits over the years.

They've also requested a one-time capital grant to help with the cost of some new lighting apparatus.
