NewsKeystone Killed; Policy And Politics At Play
The proposed Keystone XL pipeline project is no more. The American government has killed the project, but there is the opportunity for TransCanada to re-apply. Politcal Studies Instructor at Grande Prairie Regional College, Dawn Moffat-McMaster feels there is policy and politics at play. She says the Keystone project may not be the last pipeline to die. "This also gives steam to opponents, both of the Keyston XL pipeline and of the [Northern] Gateway pipeline. [Opponents of the pipelines are] coming off what's perceived as a victory and they're going to focusion on the Keystone pipeline but, also the gateway pipeline." Moffat-McMaster feels, as far as premier Redford is concerned, she's done what she could on the issue. "What will likely matter to Alberta voters, is that she did come out in support of the Keystone XL pipeline and she certainly gave every indication of not having just a half-hearted support, but actually going to the United States, advocating for it." Moffat-McMaster expects premier Redford and prime minister Harper will now stress the need to diversify energy exports. Similar Stories
