Clean up efforts are underway on parts of the Bear Creek after a resident noticed an oil sheen in the creek just south of the Muskoseepi Park pavillion on Tuesday.

Ward Redwood is acting Platoon Chief with the Grande Prairie Fire Department.

"We had a crew respond down there and did discover that there was a product in the creek and could actually smell what they suspected was diesel fuel right at the outlet that it was coming out of.  So we called more crews down there and deployed some oil absorbing booms."

The booms will remain in place until emergency crews are confident that no more hydrocarbons are coming from the storm sewer outlet.

Redwood says the small amount of spill into the creek does not pose any health risks.

He adds they are not sure where the oil product originated from.
