Alberta celebrates Environment Week from June 3rd to 9th.

The City of Grande Prairie has a handful of events planned and is getting a jump start on the festivities - they'll be in Crystal Lake Park on Sunday at 2 to plant over 2100 seedlings.

Michelle Gairdner, the City's Environment Sustainability Manager, says they had a lot of help from local businesses for this activity.

"That's with the Grande Prairie Home Builders.  The trees have been provided by PRT in Beaverlodge and with the assistance of Fred Radesmuth from Ainsworth.  So that's our start."

They are also doing a Grande Fondo Community Bike Ride from Muskoseepi Park on Sunday afternoon around 2:30.

She adds that most of the activities that they're offering, you won't have to sign up for, just come out and get involved.
