More Calls For Service A Concern For Local Mounties

Thursday, May 17, 2012 - 3:10 PM
By Jeff Henson
Grande Prairie

The number of calls for service to the Grande Prairie RCMP were up over 300 last month when compared to numbers from April of 2011.

Inspector Andy Seidemann attributes some of that to recent increases in the city's population.

"With the type of community that Grande Prairie is, where it is an oil and gas based community, the demographic is generally speaking where we are getting the 20 to 45 year olds, and historically those are the people that require the calls for service."

One particular area that saw a sharp increase was collisions.

Local Mounties responded to 196 collisions last month, compared to 166 in April of last year.
