City administration is still trying to finalize policy and procedures concerning entrance signs and associated features for new neighbourhoods in the city. Stuart Wraight of the city's planning department says key criteria when the city considers these landmarks is what the developer wants to put up, and if they want to erect it on private or public land.

"The City will low maintenance features, which basically means that they're not in need of repair, maintenance on a regular basis, no need for sort of annual planting, stuff of that nature, that is proposed to go on public city lands."

Wraight adds if developers want more elaborate features like waterfalls, lighting, or structures like windmills, then they must be placed on private land and maintained by the landowner or a neighbourhood association. A final draft of the policy will be brought to the Public Works committee during their June 26th meeting.
