The city's undertaking a count of the homeless population to assess whether or not strategies to address the issue are working.
Kathryn Sheppard is the supervisor of Community Homeless Initiatives for the city: She says the data they gather in the one day count will help fill in the picture of homelessness in Grande Prairie.
"[We can] start graphing the ups and downs in our city around what's happening in the summer what's happening in the winter and, also looking at over a few years, is our homeless count actually going up or down?"
Alberta's 10-year plan to end homelessness involves moving people out of emergency shelters and into more permanent homes with some supports.
Sheppard says they'll need about 20 to 25 volunteers to help with the one-day count on September 13th: If you're interested, contact the city at 780-357-7513.
