NewsNew Toys at GPRC
A new teaching tool has been brought into Grande Prairie Regional College for nursing students. Their new Nursing Simulation Lab will give their students the opportunity to practice on interactive dummies in a risk-free setting. The lab didn't come cheap, says Susan Bansgrove, Vice President of Academics and Research at the college, but it's be worth it. "It was fairly significant. We had some renovations. We had to buy equipment, and we had to buy a variety of technical support for that equipment. It was around 260 thousand - but it was 260 thousand dollars very well spent." The lab comes complete with two life-size, interactive dolls that have a pulse, blink and can even talk. Bansgrove says it gives the college the chance to offer the same education as someone would get at schools like the University of Alberta.
