City council will be asked to approve a development permit to erect a Wind Energy Conversion System on a business within the Richmond Industrial Park.

Barry Lazoruk with Northwest Energy Lab says it takes about half a day to install the turbine.

He is optimistic that this installation will lead to more business in the area.

"I wanted to put this one up first before I sold any more. I have about 27 people on my list who are interested, so when they come to Grande Prairie they can come out to the site to see what they're getting. I hope to sell about 100 of these by the end of the year."

The turbine and generator, which will be installed on Canadian Mobile Storage on 84th avenue, generates only 36 decibles of sound in a 60 km an hour wind - or about as much sound as a bicycle.
