This year's Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life will go into the books as a record breaker.

A special three hour walk was held last night to wrap up this year's relay, which was rained out a couple hours into the original June 8th event.

Revenue Development Co-ordinator Jaci McNaughton says the success of this year's event has left everyone in their office speechless. 

"We went in with a goal of $482,000, and last night we were very very excited to announce that the Grande Prairie/Peace Country Relay For Life raised just over $566,000." 

That marks the most money raised at a Relay for Life event in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

McNaughton says increased corporate support and hard work by the participants in raising pledges is what led to the success of this year's relay.
