Provincial Health minister Fred Horne was among those in attendance for today's announcement at the QE2 Hospital. 

Minister Horne says he is very pleased to see progress being made on construction of the Shields Health and Education centre.   

"I understand cement is being poured and you can't see that from street level because of course, they're pouring the foundation.  So we are into contsruction and I know the people in Grande Prairie have waited a long time to see the construction begin." 

He adds the functional planning for the facility, which is the final stage of designing the over half a billion dollar structure, is almost complete.
