Environment and Sustain Resource Development Minister Diana McQueen says the Redford government will get to work on the recommendations in the report released today about the Slave Lake wildfires.

In releasing the report today McQueen says they'll be working deal with some new realities Alberta faces when it comes to wildfires -- one of which is the increasing proximity of urban and forested areas. 

"Alberta's forested communities are growing: This is creating a growing and shared reality -- an expanded wildland/urban interface where the human development meets the forest." 

The 21 recommendations in the report cover areas of prevention, preparedness and communication.

The May 15th 2011 wildfires in the Lesser Slave area torched some 22,000 hectares and burned down a third of the town of Slave Lake.

In the aftermath some residents complained of a lack of notice as well as confusion about evacuation.
