NewsAMA Shred-It Day In GP Tomorrow
Identity theft is a fast-growing crime in this country and continues to balloon at an alarming rate.
What's most incredible about the drime is how vulnerable Canadians continue to make themselves by not properly safe-guarding their personal information -- and that includes disposing of old bills and records.
Tomorrow is AMA's Shred-It Day in Grande Prairie: Program Coordinator Wendy Mah says there are five information "categories" you need the protect.
"As a general rule you should safely store anything with your name, address, account information, social insurance number or birth date."
Known collectively as the "keys to the kingdom" Mah says if thieves get that info -- and they can through dumpster diving an other methods -- they can take out loans, sign leases and commit other fraud-related crimes in your name.
AMA will shred up to 6-banker's boxes of your personal records for free tomorrow from 9am until 1pm at AMA offices on 99th Street.
(Please note this free service is for personal information only and NOT businesses.)
