Winter Parking Bans A Hot Topic At City Council

Changes could be on the way to the city's snow route parking ban to accomodate a situation on 123rd Avenue.

Resident Jen Cochrane says her home has a one-car driveway, but she and her husband, each own a car - meaning one parks on the street.

Cochrane feels it's unfortunate she - or other neighbours on her street - should get a ticket for violating the ban when there's nowhere else to park.

"The first week of hte ban was mostly okay, my husband [works in the] oilfield so he was away and I could use that space, and there was not too much snow in the alley at this point yet, so I was also able to utilize that  from time to time."

There is a zoning bylaw that says lots in that area should have a two-car driveway in the back - but owners can choose what to do with their property.

Council has asked the Public Works Committee to review the issue.
