NewsMonolithic Sidewalks For New Residential Developments In Grande Prairie
Future residential development in the city will continue to feature monolithic sidewalks, if council approves a recommendation from Public Works. Committee members went against a proposal from administration, who suggested seperate sidewalks would be easier for snow removal. Instead, the committee decided to stick with monolithic sidewalks in future residential developments.
Representatives from both the Grande Prairie Homebuilders and Grande Prairie Urban Developers associations say seperate sidewalks lead to as much as 10 feet being taken away from a home's backyard, and result in an additional 3-4 thousand dollars in construction costs, which then has to be passed along to the home buyer.
