The city is keeping a close eye on new technology being used at one Calgary intersection to try and clamp down on loud vehicles.

Councillor Helen Rice brought up the issue at the committee level earlier this week.

She says the noise snare system works much the same as photo radar.

"You would have to purchase a machine that is actually able to measure the decibels.  And then you pass a by law saying in our community, here is an acceptable level of decibels, measure it, and then prosecute anyone that exceeds that. "

Rice says they will wait and see if Calgary is successful in prosecuting anyone using this technology before they consider purchasing the equipment and drafting a vehicle noise by law.

She adds council receives a number of complaints every spring and summer about loud vehicles
