Today marks the start of Muscular Dystrophy Canada's Safeway fundraising campaign.

All the money raised from the campaign will go into a grant that helps patients of the disease upgrade their behicles to make them fully accessible.

Fundraising and Community Development Co-ordinator for Alberta and the Northwest Territories with Muscular Dystrophy Canada Terri Tumack says it's not just Safeway that helps them out.

"We have the good fortune of being involved with Safeway across the province and country, but our firefighters across Canada are also quite involved in helping out Muscular Dystrophy Canada and those affected, and Grande Prairie's firefighters are definitely up there in our top fundraisers and supporters in Alberta."

The Safeway campaign kicks off today at both stores in the city - a two dollar donation gets you 5 airmiles, and you can donate up to 20 dollars.
