Another senseless act of vandalism has wrecked irreplacable fossils in the Peace country: Officials with the Pipestone Creek Dinosaur Initiative are reeling at the wanton destruction of a hadrosaur specimen near Red Willow River.

Project palaeontologist Dr. Phil Bell says the specimen's pretty much destroyed. 

"A lot of bones went missing: We actually found bones in their campsite. So they clearly had no idea what they were doing, which makes it all the more heartbreaking." 

Bell and his crew discovered the fossil back in mid-June but ran out of time to collect it.

Bell returned to the site this week, and found the fossil had been smashed and bones flung down the slope toward the river.

In the last 6-weeks, there've been four incidents of vandalism and theft.

The Historical Resources Act makes damaging and stealing fossils illegal.

You can be fined $40,000 or spend a year in jail if convicted.

The Mounties are investigating.
