NewsPeace River Riding To Be Split In Time For Next Federal Election
In the next federal election, Alberta will have 6 more seats -- and one of those new seats will be here in the Peace Country. The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission is proposing a division of Chris Warkentin's Peace river riding: It makes him a little sad, but he believes representing the increased population here is important. "As a member it's always difficult to lose portions of the riding-it's disappointing but we know it's the reality to ensure that everyone's vote counts the same as anybody else's vote so it's an importnat part of the democratic process." The current proposal has the Grande Prairie riding running from the Smoky River in the east over to the BC border, to south of Grande Prairie, and north into Clear Hills County. The second riding--Peace River-Westlock--would run further south and encompass Whitecourt, Barrhead and Westlock, east of Slave Lake, and north to the border with the Northwest Territories. A public hearing on the proposed new boundaries is set for Grande Prairie September 10th. Check out maps and more information on the redistribution process here Most Viewed Stories
