When Grande Prairie's Bruce Hawryluk first decided he wanted to do the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer it was because a Lance Armstrong book inspired him to want to help in the fight against the disease.

Then his father was diagnosed with cancer and it became even more important to him.

He says there were several challenges, but one of the biggest came from the travel.

"I had a great employer at the time, and they gave me quite a bit of time, but we did have a year with him which is a lot than most people get. And even though I couldn't make it every day I still got a lot more time with him then some people who're just caught off guard."

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a 200 km, two day bike ride that sees thousands of participants from all over the province raising money and awareness for the deadly disease.

Last year, they raised over 8.6 million dollars for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
